The Great Ocean Road
From Mount Gambier we headed into Victoria enroute for Melbourne along the Great Ocean Road. The road itself is not all that great but the views are great, although from time to time you do need to stretch your legs to see them. We stayed one night in Port Campbell, at the start of the Great Ocean Road proper and were very lucky to get accommodation. If you come in the summer, it pays to book. The village is beautiful with everything you could want for a sea side holiday.
We had a swim in the bay, which was a lot colder than Henley beach in Adelaide, but still a bit warmer than the UK. After a refreshing swim we were all set to dry off in the sun and do some energetic people watching when some of the other inhabitants got to be a bit much. The flies seemed to be drawn to us like magnets and although most people did not seem to mind they were eventually too much for us.
For the next couple of days, the flies seemed to be everywhere, whenever we got out of the car to enjoy the view they seemed to be there already. We did almost get used to them with only the occasional Australian Wave rather than our initial frantic flapping whenever they arrived.
The views were certainly worth the effort.
