On the Road Again

We are on the road again, we must have itchy feet! It took us two days to get to Adelaide from Guyra, travelling through some beautiful country; sometimes vast and sparse, sometimes densely cultivated or extensively stocked.

On these long open roads, the speed limit is 110 Km/hr and the police use radar to catch and fine speeding motorists so we are careful about how fast we go. The police are not the only reason for care. We nearly hit a Kangaroo once about dawn as it followed its partner across the road so we are always on the lookout for wild animals. We were not expecting this as we came over the top of a hill at 100Km/hr!

We never did see a Koala trying to cross a road, but then they do sleep for about twenty hours a day so sightings would be rare.

Everything here is organised to make the travellers’ journey as comfortable as possible, like this rest stop in a tiny town not even marked on our map.

As we enjoyed our lunch, we were watched by a couple of friendly Galahs who chirped away to each other without giving us a second glance.

We stopped in Forbes having driven about 700 km and were surprised to see a huge train, especially as most of the tracks we had seen so far were not regularly used at all.

This one moved slowly forward, stopped and then back again, stopped and then on again for about fifteen minutes while a growing number of car drivers waited patiently at the level crossing.
