Adelaide

After the Barossa we had planned to visit the York peninsula to visit its beaches and see the nature reserve at its southern tip. The motels at our chosen spot were all filled for the New Year celebrations and we decided to move on to Adelaide and found a fine hotel overlooking a park in North Adelaide. As we walked through the park we found the usual Magpies and Crested Pigeon but suddenly with a flash of colour, that caught Marion’s eye a little Eastern Rosella set about a fallen pine cone with great enthusiasm.

The next morning the sun shone brightly and the temperature rose quickly and so we headed for the beach about ten minutes outside the city. We parked a few yards from the beach and found one of the most gorgeous beaches I have ever seen. There were miles of beautiful sand and shallow warm water to swim in, warm by British standards anyway.

We both had a refreshing swim in the crystal clear water and with the appropriate protection enjoyed the beautiful surroundings. It had to be good for Marion to venture into the sea!

After the beach we found the Maritime Museum in Port Adelaide. It had a number of interesting exhibits including a replica of a nineteenth century ship for us to explore and entry to a lighthouse on the harbour side.

From the top of this lighthouse we had great views of the harbour’s swing bridge,

a tall ship used for sail training
and the pub where Marion enjoyed a Sunday roast with so much delicious beef that she could not eat it all, all for $6.

That’s our Toyota parked outside so we don’t have to walk too far after lunch.
