Bay of Islands

From Auckland we headed north to the Bay of Islands, a favourite anchorage for early settlers because from most places, it is impossible to see the open sea. It was always easy to find a sheltered anchorage because of the protection offered by the large number of islands in the bay.

We chose to stay at Haruru at the Haruru Falls Resort, a beautiful holiday complex overlooking the river and the falls themselves.

As this is still the beginning of the season, I had the pool to myself for a lovely swim. Marion and I enjoyed an eventful hour on the river in a two man(person) canoe. We returned without having had a row or a capsize. Amazing!!!

  • I dont believe you could spend an hour in a canoe without having a row!
