Kelly Tarlton’s Antarctic Adventure

One of many interesting places we visited was Kelly Tarlton’s Antarctic Adventure with an unusual collection of exhibits. Marion was attracted by the giant stingrays which we watched being hand fed! These are the same type of fish that killed Steve Irwin!!

You can just see one barb near the end of its tail but most of them have three stingers always ready if they feel threatened. They had been trained to take food from their keepers and so all went well.

As a contrast to the rays, they have an amazing exhibit on Scott’s final Antarctic expedition. As well as more information than any ordinary person could take in they had a reconstruction of the hut the expidetion used to over winter. It was fully stocked with all the original equipment and consumables they would have had available in 1912.

There is a huge aquarium with a tunnel under the tank, it gives great views of the sharks, rays and turtles as they swim past.
